CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- There's a new plan to extend Charlotte's light rail. The Lynx line currently ends at Seventh Street in uptown.

Now transit leaders want to add another 1,500 feet of track to extend the line to Ninth Street. The cost of doing that is estimated at $25 million.

City leaders have applied for a federal grant to help pay for the project. If Charlotte receives the grant, the city would contribute $2.5 million for the two-block extension. It's not clear where that money would come from.
