One jailed in violent Statesville stabbing

STATESVILLE, N.C. -- One man is behind bars following a violent stabbing in Statesville.

Wednesday night around 8:30, Statesville Police responded to a home in the 200 block of Deaton Street.

Upon their arrival, officials found Ryan Hooks suffering multiple stab wounds to the head, chest and back.

Police say Jairus Mickale Byrd stabbed Hooks and fled. Byrd was later found slouching down inside a vehicle in the 100 block of West Front Street.

Hooks was taken to Iredell Memorial Hospital, then transferred to Baptist Hospital for treatment.

Byrd is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He was booked in to the Iredell County Jail under a $35,000 bond.
