CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A pedestrian was seriously injured Tuesday morning after being struck by a vehicle in southwest Charlotte, authorities say.

A witness said the injured person was a student.

The incident took place about 7 a.m. in the 5700 block of Nations Ford Road, near Lone Pine Lane. That is in front of the Cedar Knoll Apartments.

Medic transported a victim to the hospital a short time later, with what were described as life-threatening injuries.

A man who said he was familiar with the victim identified the youth as a student.

Police cleared the scene about 8:15 a.m., and traffic has returned to normal in the area.
