CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A man was killed near uptown after being hit by an SUV Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the accident happened around  5:30 p.m. at Wesley Heights Way and West Trade Street when 37-year-old Demorris Willingham's Ford Explorer hit the man as he was crossing West Trade.

The man, 57-year-old Sandy Ambrose Haynes , was pronounced dead on the scene.

The road was partially blocked but has since reopened.

Police have not filed any charges but are still investigating the accident, however, the crash remains under investigation.
