CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A pedestrian struck by a passing motorist has been taken to the hospital with potentially life threatening injuries.

Around 11:15 Wednesday morning, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and MEDIC personnel responded to the intersection of South Boulevard and Tyvola Road.

Authorities say a pedestrian in the median attempting to cross the road looked south, saw the roadway was clear, stepped into the roadway and was struck by a vehicle from the north.

The driver of the vehicle is still on the scene, and police say charges may be filed.
