CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A pedestrian was struck by several cars and killed in East Charlotte Saturday morning.
It happened around 3:30 a.m. in the 2100 block of Independence Boulevard.
Police say the pedestrian, a 23-year-old Traquan Rashad Mckoy, was attempting to cross the road when a Jeep Cherokee struck him in the left lane. The impact threw the victim forward. He landed in the center lane, where four other vehicles ran over him. One of the drivers, that of a 1999 Volkswagen Jetta, fled the scene after the collision.
Medics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Investigators do not suspect alcohol and speed to be factors in the incident. Mckoy was hit in a section of the road marked “no pedestrian crossing.”
Police closed Independence Boulevard from Eastway Drive to the Brookshire interchange for four hours to investigate the crash.
