CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- One person was killed in an early Monday morning accident in north Charlotte.
The accident happened on North Graham Street at West Craighead Road around 7 a.m., according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.
Emergency briefly blocked North Graham Street and West Craighead Road to investigate the accident. Both roads were reopened around 9:45 a.m.
Authorities say the Lincoln Town Car driven by 29-year-old Adoma Dell Conner came to a stop blocking two southbound lanes of traffic when it was struck on the passenger side by a Mack Truck.
Conner told police his vehicle "shuttered" and he applied the brakes. Then, Conner stated the car suddenly turned to the left, across the southbound lanes of traffic. Conner told police he was unable to move his vehicle due to a bad shift linkage.
Conner's passenger, 27-year-old Quanisha Layjoyce Cherry, who police say was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
At the time of the crash, police say it was still dark outside and it was raining lightly. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors.
Conner was arrested for misdemeanor death by vehicle after being treated and released for his injuries.
The driver of the Mack Truck was not injured.
