SALISBURY, N.C. -- A Salisbury man died Tuesday after police say he laid down on the tracks in front of an incoming train.

Just before 11:30 Tuesday morning, Salisbury emergency personnel responded  to a pedestrian accident involving a Norfolk Southern Railroad train between 14th and 15th Streets.

Authorities say 66-year-old Hugh Avril Deadwyler walked onto the tracks, then laid down across the tracks.

The train sounded its horn several times, but Deadwyler didn't move, and the train was unable to stop before striking him.

Deadwyler was pronounced deceased at the scene.
