CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The North Carolina Highway Patrol arrested a man after he crashed into a patrol car during a chase on Interstate 77 Tuesday.

The highway patrol said 20-year-old Rockly Rico of Statesville was driving a stolen pick-up truck crashed into a patrol car after a chase on I-77 south near Sunset Road.

The chase started in Statesville after an officer saw Rico driving recklessly through traffic. The officer pursued the truck but backed off after realizing the pursuit could put other drivers at risk.

The state trooper followed the truck for a while and was assisted by another highway patrol officer.

Both troopers said they were able to get the truck pulled over but the Rockly took off again, running into the back of a patrol car.

The trooper in the patrol car was not hurt.

Rockley has been charged with fleeing/eluding arrest, assault with a deadly weapon, speeding, no operator's license, resisting a public officer and failure to heed a blue light/siren.  He was jailed on a $9,300 bond.
