GASTONIA, N.C. -- Gastonia Police are reviewed their K-9 policy after a police dog bit a woman outside the station Thursday afternoon.
The German Shepherd, Luke, was on the grass outside when he crossed paths with the 18-year-old female. Captain Steve Duncan says the dog was not provoked.
"He routinely does demonstration and is around people. He's just a good dog and I don't have any idea why this happened," Duncan said.
Luke was on patrol Friday but was not allowed contact with citizens. Duncan said the dog will be reevaluated, as will the department's policy.
The 18-year-old woman was bitten on the leg. She was taken to the hospital. Gastonia Police will cover her medical bills, if necessary.
