CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have identified the alleged gunman responsible for last weekend's shootings in uptown Charlotte that left one man dead and another injured.

CMPD has obtained two warrants for 20-year-old Antonio Amos Thompkins, charging him with murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

Police believe Thompkins pulled a gun and started firing after two groups got into a fight in uptown Charlotte early Sunday morning.

Antwan Smith, 22, was killed and Durante James, 21, was shot in the leg.

Police say Thompkins should be considered armed and dangerous. Officers are seeking the public's help in locating him.

Thompkins is 5-feet-10 and 130 pounds and is known to frequent the Grier Town area.

If you have information on Thompkins, call the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team at 704-336-VCAT. You may also contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or visit their website.
