FORT MILL, S.C. -- For the second time in less than a week, York County Sheriff's deputies are investigating an incident involving someone who was robbed after posting an ad for an iPhone on Craigslist.

In one case the man who showed up to buy the phone took it from the victim and ran off.

In the other incident an off-duty Charlotte police officer was sprayed with pepper spray when he met a man who wanted to buy his phone.

"All I'm saying is if you are dealing on Craigslist, you need to be very careful," said Timothy Bolin.

Bolin had an iPhone he wanted to sell and posted it on Craigslist. On Wednesday he met a man who responded to the post. They met at the Harris Teeter in Fort Mill near Gold Hill Road.

"When I got there he seemed like a real cool, calm, and collected guy. But in this day and age you never know who you are dealing with," said Bolin.

He lost his phone but was not hurt.

Last week an off-duty Charlotte police officer was pepper sprayed by a man who'd answered his Craigslist post for another iPhone.

In that case the officer pulled his back-up weapon and the suspect turned around and threw the officer's phone at him.

The suspect ran off and got away.

Bolin said in his case he didn't know what to do.

"I wanted to literally run behind him and catch him and knock him upside the head. But I didn't and that was probably the best thing to do because I could have lost my life," Bolin said.

Deputies could not say if the two incidents are related but said that is part of their investigation.
