CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police seized 78 electronic gaming machines from an illegal sweepstakes parlor in Charlotte on Thursday.
Police launched an investigation at the J&W Business Center located on 410 Westinghouse Boulevard after the sweepstakes business failed to comply with a written notice from the Mecklenburg County District Attorney regarding the operation of electronic sweepstakes.
As a result of the investigation, the J&W Business Center was found to be in violation of North Carolina gambling and electronic sweepstakes laws.
Police said they seized more than 78 electronic sweepstakes gaming machines from the business along with more than $3,500 in cash.
Authorities are still investigating the incident and charges are pending.
