CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have closed down a sweepstakes parlor on Brookshire Boulevard in northwest Charlotte, and the building's owner believes more raids at other parlors are likely.

Officers took 76 electronic sweepstakes gaming machines from Brookshire Business Center on Friday, along with $5,000 cash.  Witnesses told NBC Charlotte that police were at the business all day.

Brookshire Business Center is located just north of I-85 on the Brookshire Blvd., near the Thomasboro neighborhood.

A statement from CMPD said the business "failed to comply with a written notice from the District Attorney's office regarding the operation of an electronic sweepstakes operation."

The statement said Brookshire Business Center violated North Carolina's new gambling and electronic sweepstakes laws, which bans electronic gambling machines.

A sign hanging in front of the building Saturday read, "For Lease" and gave a phone number.

Building owner Hassan Radmanesh said the sweepstakes business is not coming back, and another won't be moving in.

"Too much trouble," said Radmanesh, referring to the up-and-down nature of the sweepstakes business following the new law.  Many parlors closed when the law went into effect, only to reopen days later with what they called "software upgrades."

Radmanesh said police hinted that there could be more raids like the one at Brookshire Business Center.

NBC Charlotte e-mailed CMPD about the possibility of more raids, specifically asking how many parlors had received warnings from the District Attorney, but their answer was not available Saturday evening.

Police only said the investigation at Brookshire Business Center is ongoing, and charges are pending.
