CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- All across Charlotte Friday, realtors put down their appointment books and "for sale" signs and went to work to help others.
Over 600 agents worked on more than 30 different area homes, helping to fix-up the homes of people having trouble making ends meet. The effort wasn't related to selling the homes, but rather to just provide a safe and comfortable place to live.
"Thank God because it is truly a blessing," said Lisa Littlejohn.
She watched as more than 20 realtors worked on her home on Peaceful Glen Road.
"I look at these people take care of my yard and they do it as if it is their own," said Littlejohn as crews worked on her landscaping, while others hammered down a new roof and some siding.
Littlejohn's mother and aunt both passed away last month.
"I didn't have the strength to do anything but God found a way through these caring hearts to bring this here," she said.
Sarah Samples was one of the agents working on Littlejohn's house.
"I think of my mom when she says, 'Many hands make for light labor,' and it is really nice to do a labor of love," Samples said.
Littlejohn looked on as workers found a nest of baby birds tucked into a bush they had been trimming. The babies will stay. Their nest, like Littlejohn's home, is in good shape.
"So compassionate. I'm just grateful and thankful, said Littlejohn, as she wiped away a tear.
