CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The wife of Ric Flair was arrested late Sunday night at their Charlotte home for allegedly assaulting the former professional wrestling champion.

Officers were called to the couple's home in the Stonecroft neighborhood of south Charlotte around 11:40 p.m.

When officers arrived on scene, Flair said his wife assaulted him inside the house after a domestic dispute, according to a police report.  The alleged assaulted happened shortly after the couple returned home from dinner.

"They were very happy the whole night. They were here for a few hours and they were very happy," said Nicole Jurcisin, a waitress at the Lodge restaurant, where the Flairs spent the evening.

Police say after the couple got home, Flair's wife punched him several times in the face. They arrested 41-year-old Jacqueline Beems.

"I was shocked. I could not believe it. Jacqueline -- they are both nice people," said Jurcisin.

The police report states Flair received minor injuries and refused to be transported to the hospital.

Beems was charged with assault and was booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail.

Police don't know what the argument was about, but sources believe that alcohol was a contributing factor. Beems is in Mecklenburg County Jail without bond, which is a part of the standard cooling off period for people arrested on domestic abuse charges.

Flair and Beems met in 2004 in Chicago and dated until they married Nov. 11. Each was married previously.

Flair, whose given name is Richard Morgan Fliehr, has been involved in other police incidents. In September 2008, he received cuts and bruises and his 23-year-old daughter was arrested in connection with a dispute that also involved a 22-year-old man at a Raleigh apartment complex.

And in November 2005, Flair was charged in connection with an incident on Interstate 485 in south Charlotte. In that case, he was accused of grabbing another motorist by the neck.
