ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) -- A South Carolina teenager will spend up to 45 days in juvenile detention for selling a gun to a fellow middle school student, while the buyer will spend his time on house arrest.

The Herald of Rock Hill reports both the 15-year-old seller and 13-year-old buyer pleaded guilty Tuesday to possession of a gun on school grounds. They will be sentenced next month.

The older teen's criminal record prompted Judge Henry Woods to send the 15-year-old to an evaluation center in Union through mid-December.

The 13-year-old had no prior charges. He paid $65 for the gun, mainly in coins, including 122 dimes. He said he planned to go target shooting with his father.

Prosecutors say Saluda Trail Middle School officials found the rusted pistol in a locker Oct. 2. No bullets were found.
