SALISBURY, N.C. (AP) -- Salisbury police are investigating the death of an inmate found dead at Piedmont Correctional Institution.
Authorities say 44-year-old Kevin A. Barrett was found dead early Friday. Authorities say he appears to have killed himself by hanging.
Police say Barrett had returned to prison Oct. 9 after violating his supervised release in connection to an Aug. 28 armed robbery.
Charges including assault with a deadly weapon, robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon are still pending in Guilford County.
The North Carolina Department of Public Safety says Barrett was released from prison March 30 and placed on supervised release after serving 13 years as a habitual felon.
