CHARLESTON, S.C -- A family court judge has been assigned to preside over a hearing to end the marriage of South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford.
A court roster published on Friday shows Judge Jocelyn Cate will hear the case next week in Charleston County. Cate has served as a family court judge for eight years and before that, worked in the
local solicitor's office.
It will be the first time in state history that a sitting governor has divorced. Jenny Sanford filed for divorce in December on the grounds of adultery.
Last summer, Gov. Mark Sanford disappeared for five days, then returned and admitted an affair with an Argentine woman.
In court filings, Sanford has admitted the affair and asked a judge to approve his wife's request to end their 20-year marriage
