LENOIR, N.C. -- The Caldwell County Sheriff's Office says a car chase with a drug dealer came to an abrupt end Friday when the suspect crashed his car.
Rodrick Duane Dula, 34, of Lenoir, a drug offender on federal probation, attempted to flee a Caldwell County Deputy on Friday, officials say.
The deputy stated he observed Dula speeding after leaving a "suspicious area", when he attempted to pull over Dula's car. Then, according to the Sheriff's Office, Dula ran a stop sign at Bradford Mountain and Dulatown Road, beginning the brief pursuit.
Shortly thereafter, officials say Dula crashed his vehicle.
A search of Dula's car turned up marijuana packaged for sale worth $1400, authorities say, along with nearly $400 in cash and drug paraphernalia.
An additional bag of marijuana was found along the road not far from the crash site, the Sheriff's Office says, that officials believe Dula threw from his car during the chase.
Dula is charged with one count each of felonious possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana, felonious maintain a vehicle to keep/store a controlled substance, careless and wreckless driving, failure to stop for a stop sign, speeding and felling to elude arrest.
Dula was booked in to the Caldwell County Detention Center with bonds totaling $80,000.
