CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Six elementary school students and two adults were injured Monday morning after the driver of a pickup truck slammed into the back of a school bus north Charlotte.
The accident happened at on Nevin Road at the intersection of Gibbon Road in the University area at about 8:45 a.m. The accident involved school bus No. 1118 from John M. Morehead Elementary School, a car and a pickup truck.
The six students were treated at Carolinas Medical Center and released Monday afternoon.
The driver of the bus was transported to the hospital along with the driver of the truck, Medic said.
A CMS spokesperson says the bus was stopped at a red light when it was hit from behind by the driver of a pickup truck. There were 18 students on the bus at the time of the accident.
"We had some (students) with minor injuries that were immediately transported to CMC. All of the parents were notified," said Bobbi Bigelow, assistant principal of Morehead Elementary School. "We're glad everything worked out fine and they're safe."
Briana, the driver of the car involved in the crash, said she was pulling out of the parking lot when her car was hit by the truck. She was not injured in the accident.
