CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Police say charges will not be filed against a driver who struck a sixth-grade student Thursday morning.
The Sedgefield Middle School student was hit in southwest Charlotte at Sleepy Hollow Road and Whispering Pines Drive as she was walking to her school bus.
Police say the girl and her sister were walking in the street because there are no sidewalks in that area. The driver told police she was blinded by the sun and didn't see the girl.
The driver was only traveling 20 mph at the time. The girl was taken to Carolinas Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries.
