CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- "American Idol" winner Fantasia Barrino was hospitalized Monday night for a medication overdose.

Emergency crews were called to her Piper Glenn home just before 9 p.m. on Monday.

“It was about 9:30 at night. There was just a bunch of fire trucks and ambulances out there and I saw a stretcher parked in the driveway and I was kind of worried,” says neighbor Jimmy Kleitches.

When we interviewed the former “American Idol” winner last year she talked about the obstacle she’s been fighting since winning the show, staving off bankruptcy.

“I’m rebuilding my dynasty and I won’t let anything get in the way of it,” she told us then.

But the pressure of recent events may have gotten to the singer.

Part of the pressure is Fantasia’s relationship with Antwuan Cook.

Last week Cook’s wife filed a complaint saying that her husband is having an affair with the singer.

In the statement her manager released, Fantasia’s manager says the singer read the complaint Monday and she was "totally overwhelmed by the lawsuit and media attention, and last night she took an overdose of aspirin and a sleep aid. She was dehydrated and exhausted at the time."

The statement does not address whether this was a potential suicide attempt. The police report classifies it as a suicide attempt, but that can change depending on what's learned in the investigation.
