CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Sprint Cup Coca-Cola 600 kicks off Sunday at Charlotte Motor Speedway, but there's lot of excitement off that track this weekend.
Food Lion Speed Street starts Thursday at noon and runs through Saturday. Crews were busy Thursday morning transforming uptown for the biggest event.
"It's the greatest free event that Charlotte has to offer," Speed Street Producer Jay Howard. "We've been doing this for 19 years, and when you're able to put an event the same location, the same weekend year after year."
This is the 19th year for the event, and it really offers something for everyone, including live bands, special appearances and, of course, food.
Speed Street is part of the ten days of racing in May and uptown is expecting more than 400,000 visitors this weekend.
