CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Tuesday night shooting that wounded two young men, including a 14-year-old middle school student, was an accident, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.
Detectives made that determination based on interviews with witnesses and victims Wednesday, and were no longer looking for suspects in the case.
A police report identified one of the victims as 20-year-old Rasean Jeffries, who was still hospitalized Wednesday, according to his mother, Samantha Jeffries. The police report did not reveal the name of the 14-year-old, but a witness said he was a student at Martin Luther King Middle School.
The shooting was reported at about 10 p.m. on Larchmont Avenue, a dead-end street about a quarter-mile west of Milton Road and behind Plaza United Methodist Church.
The victims suffered abdominal wounds and paramedics took them to Carolinas Medical Center. Both Jeffries and the 14-year-old are expected to be OK, Samantha Jeffries said.
