MORGANTON, N.C. (AP) -- Police are looking for a teen who escaped from a minimum security prison in western North Carolina.

Correction Department spokesman Kevin Acree said Monday morning that 18-year-old Alexander Flowers had been missing from the Western Youth Institution in Morganton since late Sunday night.

Flowers was convicted of larceny of a motor vehicle and misdemeanor larceny in Stokes County. He was sentenced to between eight and 10 months in prison and was scheduled to be released in December.

Western Youth Institution houses about 680 male inmates, ages 22 and younger.
