CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- A UNC Charlotte professor who spent weeks in a coma after a brutal beating came face to face with his suspected attackers Monday.
Naryan Dhakal will still have to wait to find out just how long Maurice Weaver will spend behind bars.
Dhakal and his family came from Alabama to Charlotte to finally see the faces of the men accused of brutally attacking Naryan more than a year ago.
"I can't understand how one human being could do this to the other," says Abi Dhakal, Naryan's brother.
Maurice Weaver took a plea deal Monday for the October 2008 crime that left the UNCC professor fighting for his life.
Dhakal is now facing a lifetime of rehabilitation to do things that many take for granted.
"Were just hoping he's going to be able to make some kind of a living in the future," says Abi Dhakal.
A co-defendant, Tyresse Scott, choose to go to trial.
A juvenile was also charged in the uptown beating and robbery.
"Its very difficult it's very hard. Its heartbreaking," says Abi Dhakal.
Abi Dhakal says his brother works from sun up to sun down to try to restore his mind and body.
"if somebody were to see how hard he works at home it would bring tears to their eyes," says the brother.
"I'm just trying hard... hard to get well," says Naryan.
Weaver will also testify against one of his co-defendants.
