TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. -- An electrical transformer failure at a substation near Taylorsville has left a large part of the town in the dark.
The Alexander County Sheriff's Office says the utility companies are aware of the failure, and are working to correct the problem.
The outage has affected a majority of the town's residences and businesses.
Utility company officials told the Sheriff's Office that they estimate restoring power by 4 p.m. Thursday.
The Sheriff's Office would like to remind citizens that reporting a power outage is not a legitimate reason to call 911; 911 should be reserved for true emergencies only, authorities say.
