CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Two men were killed in an late night accident on Interstate 77 near Westinghouse Boulevard on Monday.

North Carolina state troopers said a mini-van and a SUV traveling on I-77 northbound sideswiped one another after the driver of the SUV tried to change lanes.  The SUV ended up on its side in the middle of the interstate.

Antonio Eugene Thorpe then pulled over and jumped out to help Ninh Van Nguyen, the driver of the SUV.  Seconds later a tractor-trailer came by pushing the SUV several feet, killing both men.

Nguyen and Thorpe were pronounced dead at the scene by Medic. The investigation in the collision is still ongoing, according to troopers.

As of early Tuesday morning, troopers hadn't charged anyone in the accident. I-77 was closed until about 3 a.m. Tuesday.
