UNION COUNTY, N.C. -- Union County will fight a verdict that awarded $91 million to the school district.
The Board of Commissioners filed an appeal against a recent grand jury verdict on Thursday.
"We cannot allow a verdict that would destroy our schools, bankrupt our businesses, and squeeze every single taxpayer in our county to go unchallenged," said Union County Board of Commissioners Chairman Jerry Simpson. "This decision would devastate businesses, seniors, taxpayers and children."
The commissioners appropriated $85 million to the district, Union County schools requested $9 million more.
