CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- It was a tragedy on the lake.
A child fell overboard while boating with his family on Lake Wylie near Tega Cay.
He didn't survive, his family was devastated.
But now, weeks later, a community came together with an unusual fundraiser at the Palisades Sports Complex to help honor Blake Goshen.
It was a rigorous boot camp workout.
Julie Sawyer organized the fundraiser for the Goshen family after she found out about the tragic accident that killed Blake Goshen.
"This was really a good event. I 'm really thankful to Julie for putting this on for Phil and Dixie. It means a lot to them," says Debbie McClary, Blake's grandmother.
A few dozen showed up Saturday to go through the work out in memory of the 8-year-old.
"Blake was a carefree, just a happy-go-lucky boy. He just always tried to put a smile on other people's faces," says Phil Goshen, Blake's father.
The Goshen's say since his death, they have been blessed by the number of prayers from others helping them through.
Saturday was no different, as each participate donated money just to sweat it out for Blake.
"Oh it's worth it, with everything they've been through, this is the least I can do," says Kimberly Wiggins.
"He loved being outdoors, he loved making friends and being around people," says Phil Goshen.
Blakes parents say they have created a foundation in Blake's memory and want to honor him with a memorial that could go up in Tega Cay's Windjammer Park.
