ALBEMARLE, N.C. -- Volunteers are assisting victims of Thursday’s massive storm that pounded the Charlotte area.

Thousands were left without power after the rain and wind rolled through, heavily impacting residents in Stanly, Montgomery, Cabarrus, Rowan, Burke, Alexander and Caldwell Counties.

The Red Cross set up a temporary shelter in Stanly, as well as the other counties. Close to a dozen families were helped.

The North Carolina Baptist Men and Women Disaster Relief group set volunteers to Stanly to directly help the victims.
