CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. -- Rain in the forecast has forced the Catawba Fire chief to cancel burning a vacant mansion previously owned by former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield.
The Catawba Fire chief tells NBC Charlotte the home was scheduled to be burned down on Saturday morning as part of a training exercise, but it was canceled due to weather.
Mayfield was suspended from NASCAR in 2009 after testing positive for methamphetamine.
He was later charged for possessing thousands of dollars of stolen racing equipment. The case has not yet gone to court.
The fire chief says the training exercise has not been rescheduled at this time.
