CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Well Fargo is testing a new fee for its customers.
Wells Fargo customers in the Carolinas are safe for now, but others across the country are about to be hit with a new card fee.
Wells Fargo will charge customers $3 per month to use their debit cards.
The San Francisco-based bank said the fee will be applied to checking accounts opened in five states starting in October.
The fee would be in addition to monthly service fees ranging from $5 to $30.
The first accounts that will be hit are those opened in Oregon, New Mexico, Nevada, Georgia and Washington.
Wells Fargo has not said whether the program will expand to other states.
