CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Skylar Van Buren, 10, is a huge fan of Justin Bieber.
"I love his music. He is just so awesome," gushed Skylar. Since Bieber's concert stop in Charlotte was announced last summer, she'd been trying to earn money through chores to buy a ticket.
Skylar's priorities soon changed. Her family attends church with the Miller family. Last year, then 17-month old Elan Miller was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive brain cancer.
"We had a healthy 17 month old baby and within two days, our lives turned around," said Elan's mother, Karrin.
The Millers had to go to Indiana for special- and expensive- treatments.
"I was saving up my money to see Justin Bieber, but when I heard Elan was diagnosed with cancer I wanted to help out. I donated all my Justin Bieber money to him," explained Skylar.
Karrin Miller said she received a card in the mail from Skylar containing $12. "I broke down into tears. Just seeing $12 from a little girl- that might at well be $1,200 to someone her age-giving up such an important thing for her, to see Justin Bieber."
Skylar said the choice wasn't that difficult for her to make.
"It was an itsy bitsy bit hard because I love Justin Bieber, but I love [Elan] more so it was more easy. I wanted him to get a lot better," said Skylar.
Miller said she wanted to make sure Skylar got to go to the Charlotte concert, but tickets were too expensive to purchase by that time. So, she contacted Radio Disney. A representative there was touched by the story and secured two tickets, plus meet-and-greet passes, for Skylar.
Skylar and her mother will get to meet Justin Bieber this Tuesday, January 22 before his show at Time Warner Cable Arena.
"I am so excited. I thought it was a dream, I even said 'Please don't let this be a dream.'" said Skylar," I just did it because I love Elan."
Not the ending Skylar was expecting, but a happy one indeed.
