CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Winter storm warnings are up for the mountains and foothills where 3-5 inches of snow will fall through Sunday morning.
The rest of the region will see a very cold rain with some snowflakes mixed in but no accumulations.
Outside of the higher elevations, most of the day a cold rain will fall for the Piedmont with temperatures holding around 40 degrees. The rain will move out by late afternoon Saturday and will briefly change to snow at the end of the event.
Saturday night is when we could actually see the biggest problems as moisture freezes on the roads, especially elevated surfaces as temperatures drop down into the upper 20s by Sunday morning. There are still a lot of variables that could have major impacts on the forecast.
