CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Thanksgiving is coming up and if you have outdoor activities planned, the weather is usually pretty nice.
I looked back at the weather for the past Thanksgiving days going back to 1950. This project was time consuming because Thanksgiving Day does not occur on the same date every year.
So the first thing I had to do was find the date Thanksgiving fell for the past 62 years. Secondly, I checked for extremes for those dates and compared the results.
I found the warmest Thanksgiving Day was 74 degrees in 1985, and the coldest was 25 degrees in 2002 and 1970.
The worst weather to occur on a turkey day was in 1980 when the high was a chilly 39 and almost a half inch of rain fell. In all, 34 percent of all Thanksgiving Days have had more than a trace of precipitation.
Since 1950 there has not been a Thanksgiving Day with snow.
