Beach and Uptown parade draw Labor Day crowds

Known as the last official day of summer, Labor Day has Charlotte locals out celebrating and enjoying.

CHARLOTTE, NC (WCNC) - Labor day is commonly known as the last official day of summer, and there were plenty of people making the most of it Monday.

A parade on Tryon Street drew hundreds to Uptown, Charlotte.

“It’s nice to have a break from everything, the super busy-ness of life,” attendee April Davis said. “We wanted something fun to do to celebrate the community and Labor Day.”

It appeared the parade did not disappoint attendees. The sound of music and laughter echoed through the streets of Uptown.

“There’s so much going on in the world right now what we need is to celebrate the little things,” said Thaddius Knight, who attended the parade with his wife and two young daughters.

“I want to teach my daughters, especially on Labor Day, you have to work for everything and school is important and it’ll all pay off.”

There was plenty of fun in the sun to be had at the beach too. Monday was the last day of the season for Ramsey Creek Beach in Cornelius.

"You get to swim and you get to play in the sand and there’s a park over there,” said 8-year-old Taragee Stitt. “We were planning this trip for a long, long time and it finally came!”
