Butler High School football coach arrested for assault

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A football coach at Butler High School in Matthews has been arrested and charged for assault.

Brian Hales, 43, was arrested Saturday evening after a 30-year-old woman reported him of assaulting her.

According to CMPD, Hales and the woman got into a verbal argument that turned physical. The police report details the woman having bruises and scratches upon their arrival, however, she refused treatment from the officers.

The report also states that the woman and Hales are related. 

The incident occurred around 6:05 p.m. Saturday at Denean's residence on Ashley Farm Drive in Matthews. 

According to Hales' Linked In, he has been a football coach at Butler High School since 2008. Hales is in his sixth season as Butler's head football coach, with a record of 67-13, including 10-1 this season, the Charlotte Observer says.

Hales has since been suspended without pay from Butler High School.
