Carolina Thread Trail celebrates National Trails Day

National Trails Day Celebration in McAdenville with Hiking

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. -- It was a perfect weather to enjoy a hike and Carolina Thread Trail was the place to do it Saturday.

The Thread Trail led free tours through its two-mile South Fork Trail between Lowell and McAdenville for National Trails Day.

Folks could also enjoy free kayaks on the South Fork River, along with food, beer and music. The trail is surrounded by 93 acres of land protected by the Catawba Lands Conservancy.

The Thread Trail’s director says building trails through towns is a great way to bring people together to enjoy the great outdoors.

“We often see people out on trails that you wouldn’t see in a state park or national park because it’s part of their neighborhood, and it really helps build a sense of community,” said Andy Kane, director of Carolina Thread Trail.

Blue Blaze Brewery created a special brew just for the day called the “Carolina Thread Trail Pale Ale.” A portion of sales was donated to support building and maintaining the trails.
