Charlotte Clinton supporters show disappointment

Hillary Clinton supporters around Charlotte say they're disappointed with her loss, but believe she handled the defeat with dignity.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- To a standing ovation, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton took the stage late Wednesday morning, conceding the presidential election to her republican opponent Donald Trump.

“This is not the outcome we wanted or the outcome we worked so hard for and I’m sorry,” said Clinton.

Across Charlotte, many eyes watched from their televisions. At Skyland Family Restaurant on South Blvd, the owner turned the volume up for diners to listen in.

“I watched it today and it made me cry,” said UNCC Student Laura Ayala.

Clinton’s loss was a disappointment shared by many supporters, but especially among women. “God, that’s why I wanted her for president,” said Aliyah Ivey.

During Wednesday’s concession speech Clinton said she’ll support Trump.

“We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead. Our constitutional democracy enshrines the peaceful transfer of power and we just don’t respect that, we cherish it,” said Clinton.

Supporters say they’re left with no choice, but are trying to stay positive as they accept America’s choice. They say they’re confident that one day a woman will get her chance to serve in the oval office and that is what they are hopeful for.

“We have another opportunity for this to happen. It’s not the last time we’re going to get a female candidate. There’s going to be more times,” said Ivey.

Ayala agreed, “I cant wait for another female to run again.”
