Climber seriously injured in fall from Crowder's Mountain

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. -- A climber is in the hospital after falling from Crowder's Mountain Monday afternoon.

The Gastonia Fire Department says the male climber sustained serious injuries in his 15 to 20-foot fall from the side of the mountain.

Authorities say the man was on a training wall. Emergency first responders hiked more than 300 yards over mountainous terrain to bring the man down the mountain.

It's not yet clear the circumstances that led to the man's fall.

While the man's injuries are considered serious, the Gastonia Fire Department says they're considered to be non-life threatening.
