Authorities make arrest in Carowinds shooting

Police have made an arrest in a teen's shooting at Carowinds.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Authorities have arrested a man they say shot a teen boy at Carowinds on Labor Day.

Police also recovered the car believed to have been used by the suspect.

The 14-year-old, who has not been identified, was shot twice in the stomach and transported to CMC Main Monday night.

The incident report from the York County Sheriff's Office says the boy was shot shortly after leaving the park at about 7 p.m.

The report indicates a witness saw the car prior to the shooting at a gas station near the park's access road.

It says a woman, "was parked by the suspect vehicle, a Dodge Magnum, and observed the suspect talking about going to Carowinds and assaulting the victim."

Ron Sneed, who is a fan of the park, said he thought more security was needed.

"Some kind of detector or something you have to walk through cause this is serious, very serious," he said.

A Carowinds spokesperson said there is electronic monitoring already in place, saying every person entering the park is scanned with a wand and every bag is searched first.

The spokesperson also emphasized that the shooting happened outside the gate where people are checked.

Police later located the suspect's car parked at an apartment complex on Waterford Glen Loop in south Charlotte. The suspect, Brock Alexander Bewley-Goodridge, 22, was later arrested in Charlotte by York County deputies and Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

The Sheriff's Office says Bewley-Goodridge shot the teen in a bus parking lot after inserting himself into an argument earlier in the day.

Sam Sneed said life has changed in so many ways with acts of violence occurring more and more often.

"It just takes a lot of the joy out of life when you can't walk across a parking lot without thinking somebody could do you harm," he said.
