CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A man was arrested after police say he brought a knife onto the campus of Bruns Academy in northwest Charlotte Wednesday morning.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, officers responded around 7:45 a.m. to in reference to a person that was armed.
Officials say the suspect, identified as Pascal James Moore, 31, was armed with a knife and attempted to enter the school's main doors. Police say that Moore fled before officers arrived, but they were able to locate him and took him into custody. Moore did not gain entry to the school, police said.
According to CMPD, authorities were present at the start of school searching for any weapons.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools released the following statement to parents of Bruns Academy students Wednesday morning:
We would like to inform you that this morning we were in a lockdown for approximately 90 minutes due to activities happening in the community. There was a person who attempted to gain access to the school; however, was apprehended. All scholars and staff are safe. We have resumed our normal schedule for the remainder of the day.
