Concern from parents after SC school district opts for outsourced substitutes

Parents in the Clover School District are unhappy about the district's recent decision to hire an outside agency to bring in substitutes.

YORK COUNTY, S.C. - Parents in the Clover School District are unhappy about the district’s recent decision to hire an outside agency to bring in substitutes.

This is the first year the district is using Source 4 Teachers, in the past they’ve used an temp agency called Kelly Services.

This upcoming school year, when a teacher, nurse, food service worker or even a custodian can’t make it in to work, it’ll be up to Source 4 Teachers, not the school district, to decide who their substitute will be.

Source 4 Teachers recruits, trains and manages substitutes. This week the company  held informational meetings to fill seven open positions in the district.

The hiring process includes applicants passing, a background check, high school diploma or GED, mandatory training. From there, the company will chose  who they believe is the best person for the job.

While the district doesn’t have a say in who’s coming into the classrooms, a spokesperson for the district says they decide who stays.

If the substitute does not meet the district’s standards, the principle could request that sub not return to the school.

Source 4 Teachers’ services will not be used to choose long term substitutes.

For example, if a teacher goes on maternity leave, the principle will pick a certified teacher to fill the position.
