CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police is conducting a death investigation after two people were pronounced dead in southeast Charlotte Wednesday afternoon.

Police responded to a call for assistance at a residence in the 1800 block of Charleston Place. Upon arrival, officers located 29-year-old Tiara Clark and 31-year-old Byron Howington, both with apparent gunshot wounds inside the apartment. Both subjects were pronounced dead on-scene.

Both Clark and Howington lived at the residence and were involved in a relationship, CMPD says following investigations. CMPD said evidence led investigators to also believe the incident to be a murder-suicide.

CMPD says the incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS.
