HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. -- Carolina Raptor Center staff confirmed Monday morning that there was just one egg left in Savannah’s nest.
EagleCam watcher “Walter” indicated that he thought he saw one of them broken on Sunday evening, but was not sure. He confirmed one egg on early Monday morning. Staff watchers confirmed again with photos that there was only one egg on the nest.
Staff members also confirm that egg attrition has happened in past years in various ways. Derek appeared to eat one of three eggs laid in the 2013 nest. This is a natural occurrence and does not necessarily indicate that the egg was not viable. However, CRC staff will be minimizing contact with the nest and taking extra care with the final egg to give it the highest chance of success.
