Fire at out-of-towners' home ruled arson

GASTONIA, N.C. -- Authorities have determined a house fire in Gastonia over the weekend was set intentionally.

A home in the 700 block of Evening Shade Lane around 1:30 a.m. Saturday was engulfed in flames when crews arrived on the scene.

Firefighters extinguished the fire within about 10 minutes. No one was hurt.

The family was out of town at the time. The fire department says their home is a loss and the fire caused about $55,000 in damage.

Firefighters were on scene for six hours.

The Gastonia Fire Marshal's Office and Gastonia Police determined the blaze is arson. If you have any information that may assist law enforcement in this case, you're asked to call Gaston County Crime Stoppers at (704) 861-8000.
