Fire prompts evacuation at Concord Mills

A portion of Concord Mills Mall was evacuated after a fire Wednesday morning, officials said.

CONCORD, N.C. – A portion of Concord Mills was evacuated after a fire Wednesday morning, officials said.

According to Harrisburg Fire, emergency crews responded to a reported fire near the Sea Life aquarium and FYE electronics store inside the mall around 9:15 a.m. When crews arrived on the scene, firefighters saw smoke showing from the rear of the mall, officials said.

Concord Fire Chief Ray Allen said the fire was extinguished by the mall's sprinkler system. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to Allen. No one was injured during the fire. 

A spokesperson for Concord Mills released the following statement: 

Concord Mills is working closely with Concord Fire Department regarding this incident that took place inside of a store. Mall management is pleased to report there were no injuries or damage done to the property. The area was carefully inspected to ensure the safety of shoppers, and the mall is now reopen for the day.
