Gaston Co. offers shelter to those affected by power outage

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. -- Gaston County is opening up a shelter Wednesday night to assist those affected by the power outage.

Due to a power outage in the southern portion of Gaston County, about 2,000 residents in the area are expected to be without power until Thursday morning.

With weather forecasts indicating that overnight lows will be in the low 20s, the county's Department of Heath and Human Services will open the doors of Ashbrook High School's auxiliary gym to help residents stay warm.

The school's gym opens to the public at 8:30 p.m.
